In this interview, I speak with Mirren McDade, Senior Journalist & Content Writer at Expert Insights on the challenges of identity sprawl, the gap between authority and expectations, and why boards that understand the difference end up with better security programs.

Synopsis

“I’d rather be measured on how fast we found the problem and how well we contained it, not on a perfect record no organization our size has ever achieved,” says John J. Masserini, founder of SentiCon Security.

Masserini spent two decades in the CISO role at three organizations that had little in common. At Dow Jones and News Corp he ran security for the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and MarketWatch.

At MIAX Options Exchange he built the security program from scratch and became the primary contact for the SEC, FINRA, the FBI, and DHS.

And at Millicom International he led a global security organization across twelve countries and built the SOX 404 structure that supported the company’s NASDAQ listing.

Today, Masserini offers interim CISO and board advisory work for Fortune 1000 companies and private equity portfolios.
